Can Sort is a just a few kms from the A-7 and N-II roads heading north-south between Barcelona and the French border. The nearest large village is Bascará, just between Girona and Figueres. Set on a hilltop with fantastic uninterrupted views, there are no buildings immediately around Can Sort, and the views of the Pyrenees to the northwest and out towards the coast to the east, are memorable. While only 12 kms to the Costa Brava beaches, this is a largely agricultural area with historic villages, like lovely Vilaür hamlet, only 2 kms away. The house itself, an old masia built in 1789, is nicely furnished, including some good antiques.
The dining area has 7 or 8 tables of different sizes, and there is a huge separate social room (about 120m2 occupying a separate building) with TV, chimney, games, sofas and card tables - a great place to hang out and read or socialize. The bedrooms are spread around the main house and are quite spacious and well-appointed, all have private bathrooms and have a rustic feel, and most of the rooms have good views. Outside, a number of covered terraces provide shade under bougainvillaea and rose bushes, and the area around the house is nice for leisurely walks through pines and aromatic shrubs.
The owners, Cristina and Jaume, are not country bumpkins and both speak quite good English. He was a lawyer and she was a TV producer in Barcelona when they decided to give up city life and set up this B&B and horse club in this idyllic spot. They have done a very good job and they have a pleasant steady staff to help them. My wife and daughter and I love staying at Can Sort. We often invite invite friends and we ride a bit but what we all really like are the big rooms, big meals, big pool, big social room.... and the relatively small prices.It´s amazing how hungry one gets after 90 minutes on a horse! In short, this place has a lot going for it and I could go on and on about it, but I think the Comments from Past Visitors above say it all. It is a rare priviledge to spend time at this B&B.

We have thought of you often as we tell people about our time in Catalonia. All of your directions and suggestions were "right on" and added a personal touch to our planning which we really appreciated.
Can Sort was wonderful! We especially enjoyed the quiet, country setting and sharing the grounds with the horses, dogs, geese, and birds - like visiting family friends. Christina - in addition to being a very good cook - was gracious about sharing her extensive knowledge of the area and telling us about places we would never have found on our own. She helped make each day special.

I can NEVER forget Can Sort now, since this is where my fiance’ proposed! Right in the dining room during dinner. The cutest little girl from Andorra was sitting at our table (with her family of course), and during the course of conversation, she asked if we were married. In Spanish, I replied, “Not yet, but you can ask him when.” Taking that queue, he pulled the ring out of his pocket, and proposed right there. Jaume played the air violin, and Christina gave us a special dessert. VERY memorable.
It was all very much as expected, or better. Definitely worth recommending.

Can Sort was amazing! We resided in beautiful rooms - it is just the way we would have built our own home! Hospitality was great too. Each and every request we had was thoughtfully treated by Christina. It was more like a home rather than hotel and I guess this is the biggest complement a guest could give J Breakfast was great too. The surrounding area is beautiful and each morning we went on a nice walk in the fields. We enjoyed both being secluded and very close to major towns.
I don't mind at all that this comment will be posted on the Internet, though I don't want to post my email address.

I would just like to say a big Thank you for arranging our stay at Can Sort.
Christina and her staff made us extremely welcome whilst we were there and the food was lovely.
The views were lovely and it was nice to wake up and look out the window and see the mountains.
We took plenty of photos so we can tell our friends and family all about it - we will definitely be recommending Can Sort to everyone we know.
We hope to visit again but before we go my partner will have to learn to horse ride !!
